Problem Description:
During the last year the WEBES engineering team has found that some of the newer disk drives fail in ways different to previous drives. The failures are happening much faster and without the traditional amount of expected SCSI errors. This behavior has been observed onlyin drives connected to HSxyy Controllers (x= Z,G,D,J,etc.) (yy = 80, 50 60, etc) (as example: HSG80).
A WEBES rule set has been developed to catch this, but until now that rule was not available for Tru64 UNIX systems. The procedure below will allow users to add this rule to Tru64 UNIX WEBES 4.4.3 RU2 installations.
Click here to download the updated WEBES v4.4.3 Tru64 rule set.
Installation Procedure:
These steps should be followed exactly.
1. Log onto your Tru64 system and note the WEBES rules revisions
Command: wsea listrk
Storage ruleset Revision should be:
Storage Rev_2.29_xxxxxxxx
2. Stop Desta
Command: desta stop
Wait for prompt
3. Put the update file in a directory of your choice
4. Go to WEBES jars directory /usr/opt/hp/svctools/common/jars
Command: cd /usr/opt/hp/svctools/common/jars
Note: if you have WEBES in some other directory tree, then substitute it for what is listed here
5. Rename CA_AnaKnowledge.jar file to something else that you will remember. For example, CA_AnaKnowledge.jar_orig.
Command: mv CA_AnaKnowledge.jar CA_AnaKnowledge.jar_orig
6. Copy the new file CA_AnaKnowledge.jar to this directory:
/usr/opt/hp/svctools/common/jars
Command: mv "your dir"/CA_AnaKnowledge.jar
7. Start Desta
Command: desta start
8. Run WEBES to get a call-out. In the callout, look at the evidence section. It should say the following about the rule-set:
Evidence:
Storage Analysis Rule Rev: V2_29_443ru2upd1_20080930
