Overview

DECevent will automatically phone home prior to or shortly after a hardware problem has occurred. The following platforms are supported: Windows, NT, OpenVMS, VAX VMS and Tru64 Unix.

DECevent provides the ability to analyze events stored in the system's event log or a user-supplied event log file. Automatic analysis allows constant monitoring of a system's event logger. When an event occurs, automatic analysis of the event is performed. In addition, manual analysis allows analysis of events stored in a user-supplied binary error log file, from the same or different system, regardless of when the event occurred. An automatic notification with the problem that has occurred and a recommended solution is sent to the customer and the support center for speedy repair and minimum down time.

Please note: Although DECevent is still available for download, this application has reached end of life. DECevent V3.4 is the final release of DECevent. No further development support will be provided. This is the outcome of a formal End of Life (EOL) process that applies to both DECevent for OVMS and Tru64 UNIX (V3.4) and DECeventNT V4.1. Technical support for DECevent is provided on a best effort basis.

ENP is available for remote connectivity configurations. The Event Notification Program (ENP) for DECevent and CADC is now available for download. ENP allows current DECevent and CADC customers to route their events through ISEE.

What is Decevent ?

Business woman

DECevent allows HP and its customers to be proactive rather than reactive concerning maintenance issues on pre-merger Compaq systems. Customers can be notified of an upcoming problem and thereby schedule maintenance for minimal impact or downtime.

How to use MD5 checksums on WindowsNT:
1. Copy the required sum and digest files for the product you have selected
2. Place all the files in the same directory/folder
3. Click on the MS-DOS prompt icon
4. CD to the directory containing the files
5. At the command prompt type: C:\ftproot>md5sum.x86_exe -v -c DIAN030.md5_digest

If the kit is good you will see:

DIAN030.exe OK
md5sum.axp_exe OK

Using the help option:

C:\ftproot>md5sum.x86_exe -h

usage: md5sum [-bv] [-c [file]] | [file...]
Generates or checks MD5 Message Digests

-c check message digests (default is generate)
-v verbose, print file names when checking
-b read files in binary mode

The input for -c should be the list of message digests and file names that is printed on stdout by this program when it generates digests.
