Q1. Where can I find detailed information on the new BL685c specifications and supported options?
A1. The BL685c QuickSpecs include descriptions of all models of the ProLiant BL685c and an extensive list of supported options from HP.
Q2. Is the ProLiant BL685c similar to a ProLiant DL585?
A2. Yes, the ProLiant BL685c delivers a feature set similar to that of the DL585 in a blade form factor. In fact, all the new c-Class product names are similar to their DL equivalent. There are some differences between the DL585 and the BL685c -- for instance the DL585 has more DIMM slots, local drives and expansion slots compared to the BL685c, but the BL685c has more embedded NICs and a much denser form factor. The BL685c delivers a robust feature set that has never been seen in a 4P blade and is a viable platform for any customer looking for traditional 4P features and performance in a blade.
Q3. What options are available for the ProLiant BL685c server blade?
A3. The BL685c includes optional support for:
  • Additional memory
  • Additional processors
  • SAS or SATA hard disk drives
  • Three additional mezzanine cards - NIC, Fibre Channel HBA, or InfiniBand HCA
  • 128MB Battery-Backed Write Cache (BBWC)
For a complete list of supported options, including product specific options, please review the BL685c QuickSpecs.
Q4. What infrastructure components are needed to support the ProLiant BL685c?
A4. The BL685c requires the use of a HP BladeSystem Enclosure. For details on server blade enclosures see the HP BladeSystem Enclosures at www.hp.com/go/bladesystem.
Q5. What operating systems are supported on the ProLiant BL685c?
A5. Operating system support includes:
  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • LINUX® (Red Hat®, SuSE®, Debian, Oracle)
  • VMware ESX Server
  • Solaris 10

Health and management

A1. iLO 2 Standard Blade Edition ships standard with every c-Class blade server. It is an enhanced, essential remote management software for the next generation ProLiant BL servers.
